Japan Freezes Assets of Terrorist Group PKK

Japan’s parliament has enacted a new law freezing assets linked to the terrorist organisation PKK, marking a significant move in the global fight against terrorism. The decision was ratified by the House of Representatives following a proposal from Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) member Hitoshi Matsubara, who highlighted the PKK’s activities within Japan. Following the parliamentary approval, Japan’s Deputy Police Director reaffirmed that the PKK is classified as an international terrorist organisation, subject to asset freezing under the Law on Freezing of International Terrorist Assets. This classification means that any domestic transactions involving the PKK’s assets will be halted, effectively curbing the group’s financial resources within Japan.
